Funder Reaffirms Confidence in Timely Completion of Katete Bus Station and Market Project.

The organization financing the Katete Bus Station, market, and ablution facilities has reaffirmed its confidence in the contractor’s ability to complete the project by the scheduled deadline of December 12, 2025—despite recent signs of slower-than-expected progress.

The project, funded by KFW with an investment of K21,702,338.78 million, is being implemented under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development’s District Infrastructure Programme. It forms part of a broader initiative aimed at upgrading bus stations across Eastern Province to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance local service delivery.

During a recent site inspection, representatives from both the funder and the contractor expressed optimism, citing ongoing corrective measures designed to recover lost time and keep the project on track.

The development includes not only a modern bus station and market but also ablution blocks and an administration building. Once completed, it is expected to stimulate local commerce, improve public sanitation, and enhance service accessibility for the community.

The inspection delegation was led by Council Secretary Ms. Kate Leo Mukonde and Director of Engineering Mr. Golden Kamasumba, who toured the site to assess the progress of the ongoing works.
