The Local Government Accounts Committee Applauds Progress, Encourages Timely Delivery of Development Projects in Katete.

The Local Government Accounts Committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Misheck Nyambose, visited Katete District to assess the progress of key development projects. The committee was impressed by the ongoing works at Dole and Mkale in Milanzi and Mkaika constituencies respectively, including the construction of health posts, staff houses, placenta pits, and water supply systems.

However, concerns were raised over delays in project completion, as highlighted in the report of the Auditor General on Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the financial year 2022. These delays were attributed to systemic weaknesses such as inaccurate cost estimates, weak procurement processes, poor supervision, and ineffective monitoring of contract performance.

Hon. Nyambose emphasized the importance of adhering to the Presidential directive on timely and quality delivery of public infrastructure. He appreciated the quality of workmanship but urged contractors to improve delivery speed. He further called on the Council Secretary and the Director of Engineering to strengthen oversight and ensure that all projects from 2022 to 2024 are completed within the set timelines for the benefit of Katete residents.

The committee expressed appreciation for the warm welcome by the Local Authority and reaffirmed their commitment to continue engaging and supporting the district in improving service delivery and accountability.
